The Harrier’s name came about because of what it was breed to do, hunt hare’s. This dog is rare to find in the United States , but is very popular in England . They are playful, outgoing and great with children. They enjoy exploring so when out for a walk they should be kept on a leash, otherwise they might take off after an interesting scent.

The Harrier is an active dog; a home with a large yard is best. Exercise should be daily and consist of a jog or run. If they don’t get enough exercise they will become a nuisance. Their coat is short and occasional brushing is all that’s needed. Both sexes will weigh around 40-60 pounds and stand 19-21inches.

This small dog is great with children, gentle and a good companion. They will become very bonded with their families and show them lots of affection. The Javanese tends not to bark and can be taught not to bark, unless necessary, as a puppy. Their size, 8-11 inches in height and 7-13 pounds, makes them good pets for an apartment or a home with a small yard. Indoor playtime or a daily brisk walk is great exercise for them. Their long coats should be brushed weekly. Even with the long hair they are not shedders and are good for people with allergies to dogs.
